This November marks precisely 12 years since Poland became a fully-fledged member of the European Space Agency (ESA).
During this time, Poland has made significant strides in space research, developing many high-tech projects and advanced scientific instruments. However, for Poland to effectively compete with other European space powers, we need to pair technical advancements with strong scientific involvement. This combination is essential for contributing to ground-breaking discoveries shaping our future.
Poland’s participation in building scientific experiments for ESA missions ensures access to valuable data, enabling Polish research centres to enhance collaboration with European partners. Not only do space missions provide excellent opportunities for elite scientific programs, but they also help build scientific careers. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to strengthen the position of Polish research community within ESA in the coming years.
To this end, we invite Polish researchers to join us for the conference titled “Polish Scientists in European Space Agency Missions,” taking place on November 12th in Warsaw.
First and foremost, we encourage researchers interested in natural sciences – such as astronomy, Earth and related environmental sciences, as well as physical, biological and chemical sciences – to attend. This event is designed not only for those who already know ESA programmes but also for those just starting their space research journey. Our goal is to introduce Polish scientists to the opportunities offered by the ESA and to highlight the advantages of working within large international research teams.
The conference will feature representatives from the Science Directorate of the ESA and members of the Polish Delegation to the ESA, including the Head of the Delegation and delegates from the ESA Scientific Programme Committee.
Confirmed Speakers are as follows:
- Professor Maria Mrówczyńska, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education
- Professor Piotr Orleański, Director of the Space Research Centre, Polish Academy of Sciences
- Professor Carole Mundell, Director of Science, European Space Agency
The conference will take place on November 12th at the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw and is free of charge. Registration is required: Register here – Polish Scientists in ESA’s Missions.
The organizer of the event is the Space Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences. It was commissioned by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education.n.
